The Loop

The Generator used various online marketing techniques to help publicize and promote The Loop to a Guelph audience. Some of the tools used were:

  • Viral marketing through existing artist, arts organizations, university associations and non-profits email lists.
  • An aggressive link campaign, to ensure that The Loop can be found on the University of Guelph site and the Downtown Board of Management site. As well as over 200 other sites – for free!
  • Search engine submission
  • Directory submission services with text editing
  • For its first year of operating, The Loop also purchased pay per click, Search Engine Marketing services on both Google and Yahoo that in turn populate numerous other search engines. For each $500 spent, the Loop received 4,000 hits to its website from people searching the net for related things.
  • Press releases to the media were also written and deployed.
  • We created web pages in Myspace to collect “friends” or potential customers, as well as a Facebook page and user group.

The Loop’s weekly email subscriber list has grown to nearly 1500 in a year, and the website now generates  almost 20, 000 hits per month – a substantial targeted local audience.


Client: Bed and Breakfasts

The Generator has helped several Bed and Breakfasts increase the number of people finding their websites through Search Engine Optimization. The travel and tourism industry has undergone a dramatic change due to the Internet. B and B owners have realized that the vast majority of their business comes from people searching online before they travel. The international reach of the web has made it obvious to decrease the amount of money spent on paper brochures and pamphlets that have limited geographic reach in order to focus on websites, online marketing and paid advertising on the Internet.

We analyzed existing web statistic counters or installed new ones in order to quantify traffic to the website. The Bed and Breakfast industry has a competitive online paid advertising market. B and B owners have numerous options for sites that claim to drive traffic to their websites. Fees vary widely, as do the actual amount of hits generated from each paid site. With stat counters in place, we not only analyzed the web statistics, we showed the B & B owners how to do it themselves. This allows them to measure the effectiveness of not only our services, but they can also track the return on investment of all paid advertising and weed out the sites that do not pay off.

We also researched keywords and search terms that potential clients were using to find their business. The website’s text, titles and tags were then “optimized” and link campaigns were carried out. The number of links for each site increased dramatically which increased the sites ranking in search engines. The number of hits to the B & B’s websites increased due to their sites being found more easily and for more search terms.

  • Our SEO service included changes to titles, text and tags, implementation and analysis with the client of a website statistics program to understand SEO accomplishments, trends in their hits,  analysis of the entry and exit pages of their website.
